The University of Minnesota Medical School – CentraCare Regional Campus St. Cloud opened Fall 2025. Requests for clinical rotations are now requested through the AAMC’s Visiting Student Learning Opportunities (VSLO®) application service.
CentraCare will work in collaboration with the University of Minnesota. Please visit Visiting Students for details about the process.
Courses available can be found in the VSLO® Catalog by entering “CentraCare” in the Search Criteria box.

2. Search for: General Opportunity for APP Students, Residents, & Fellows.
3. Complete all application steps at the time of application.
- All requirements must be submitted by the deadline outlined in Clinician Nexus to guarantee an on-time start date. Failure to comply will result in a delayed start or rotation cancellation.
- An academic affiliation with CentraCare is required.
4. CentraCare will approve, waitlist, or decline applications in Clinician Nexus based on organizational prioritization, capacity, and regulatory guidelines. Application submission does not guarantee rotation approval.
5. Learners and Program Coordinators are responsible for monitoring onboarding progress and responding promptly. The institution must designate someone to handle all requests during any absence. Failure to respond may result in lost opportunities for the learner.
Rotation Information
PROGRAM ELIGIBILITY
- CentraCare does not offer rotations to online-only programs.
- Programs must require on-campus advanced clinical assessment skills training.
- Solicitation of preceptors or presenting predetermined preceptors is strictly prohibited.
- CentraCare assigns all preceptors to ensure equitable placement, appropriate scope-of-practice supervision, and consistent alignment with organizational capacity.
- Failure to follow this process may result in rotations being declined.
- An active academic affiliation agreement with CentraCare is required before approval.
PLACEMENT EXPECTATIONS
- Rotations may occur at any CentraCare service area location, including Albany, Baxter, Becker, Benson, Big Lake, Clearwater, Cold Spring, Eden Valley, Litchfield, Long Prairie, Melrose, Monticello, New London, Paynesville, Redwood Falls, Richmond, Sartell, Sauk Centre, St. Cloud, St. Joseph, and Willmar.
- Once a preceptor or schedule has been identified, no adjustments will be made.
- Students must be willing to work around the preceptor’s schedule, location, and availability.
APP STUDENT SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS
- Applications for APP students who are not current or former CentraCare employees will not be considered until 4 months prior to the requested start date.
- Eligible non‑employee APP students may be considered for a rotation based on available capacity. They may receive one rotation initially, and additional rotations may be approved if capacity allows.
APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS & DEADLINES
- All applications must be received at least 5 weeks prior to the requested rotation start date.
- All application steps and required documentation must be completed by the deadline listed in Clinician Nexus to guarantee an on-time start date.
ORGANIZATIONAL REVIEW PROCESS
- CentraCare will approve, waitlist, or decline applications in Clinician Nexus based on organizational prioritization, capacity, and/or regulatory guidelines.
- Submission of an application does not guarantee rotation approval.
COMMUNICATION EXPECTATIONS
- Students and program coordinators must monitor onboarding progress and respond promptly in Clinician Nexus.
- Each academic program must designate a backup contact to respond during staff absences.
- Failure to respond promptly may result in lost learning opportunities.
Applications may be initiated by either the student or the school/program; however, final review and submission must be completed by the school/program.
2. Create Your Account
- Go to https://app.cliniciannexus.com/ and create a free account using your full legal name. If you already have an account, you must log in using your existing credentials to avoid creating duplicate Clinician Nexus profiles.
- You must upload a professional‑appearing photo to your profile.
- Select the role: Apply for clinical experiences as a student, resident, volunteer, etc.
3. Identify Your School
- When prompted “What school do you attend?”, you must select your current school/program.
4. Select Your Discipline
- You must select the discipline that matches your academic program (e.g., Human Genetics & Genetic Counseling, Physician Assistant, Nurse Practitioner).
5. Search for the Correct Opportunity
- You must search for and select: General Opportunity for APP Students, Residents, & Fellows.
6. Complete All Application Steps
- All required application fields must be completed prior to submission.
- You must select Save and Submit Request to route your application to your school/program for review and completion.
- Upon rotation approval, you must complete all onboarding requirements in Clinician Nexus. Students may work ahead on onboarding tasks, but may not begin a rotation until all onboarding requirements are complete.
7. School/Program Review
Once the application is received, the school or program must review it for accuracy, complete all required application steps (including any portions the student was unable to complete and the program attestation), and formally submit the request to CentraCare.
- If the student is requesting placement at a CentraCare location with a non‑CentraCare provider, please add a comment in the activity noting this at the time of application.
8. CentraCare Review
- CentraCare will review the submission and determine approval, waitlist status, or decline.
9. Ongoing Monitoring
- All communication must occur within the Activity section of Clinician Nexus.
- Users must enable message and comment notifications under My Account to avoid missing updates.
